A short summary of your project
French Society at the University of Leicester has gained popularity amongst members who are keen to discover and experience the French culture. Furthermore, French Societies in general in England are attracting more and more university students. In order to recognise the University of Leicester’s students support, we would like to organise a trip in partnership with the University of Southampton. The aim is to visit London for an experience of French culture. We wish to finance the cost of transport, the visits and the events. The French Societies Swap, as we like to call it, would take place in late February. We shall begin our journey in a French restaurant so that members are able to meet and interact with people from the other university with common interest in the French culture. Strolling in London streets and vibrant atmosphere, we would also visit French bakeries to give our members a taste at some pâtisseries (pastries). After all, one macaron never hurt nobody! Finally, to have a taste at the Parisian effervescence, we wish to offer to our members a dazzling and spectacular show in a French Cabaret in London.
Who are you?
French Society at the University of Leicester was first created in 2012 by students from the English and French Law programme. Our society has now expanded to target students from all disciplines, such as from Modern Languages, Business Studies or even Computer Science. Beyond our passion for this poetic language, we also aim to allow students to discover French culture and lifestyle through the organisation of a variety of events. Our most famous one being the “Wine & Cheese Night” where, as the name suggests, we offer a wide range of French wines accompanied by delicious cheese. Moreover, As France is also a diverse country, we have also planned a Mediterranean night with other societies in order to experience different cultures and interests. In doing so, we also expand our network of members also.
Each year, we are proud to welcome more and more members to whom we hope to offer a wider range of events. Holding wine and cheese tasting sessions comes at a great cost, considering the fact that it is the type of event to attract people the most. Our goals for the future are to expand our array of events by providing more culinary options to suit all regimes and to offer various trips to French places, exhibitions etc. Our strongest desire is to offer journey to France. However, for the time being, our primary focus is to provide a joyful experience of French culture in London.
By giving us the chance to hold the event, you will be giving the opportunity to our members to a worthwhile experience into French’s culture in the wonderful city of London.
Where will the money go?
Our minimum target of £400 will allow us to considerably reduce the price of the ticket, with a maximum of 20 tickets available to be sold. Your donations will contribute to the cost of transport and of the Cabaret which together amount to £1,218.
We would like to reduce this price by half so that the overall ticket to come to our trip does not exceed £30. If we achieve this target, we would be very grateful, and any leftovers will contribute to furthermore diminish the price for students as well as improve the quality of our future events on campus.
- For any donation exceeding £120, the donor will receive a panier gourmand and a French fine bottle of wine from Bordeaux, or of Champagne (ideal for a gift).
- For any donation exceeding £70, the donor will be entitled to a fine French bottle of wine from Bordeaux or a fine bottle of Champagne.
- For any donation exceeding £20, the donor will receive a golden collector’s coin of the Joconde from the renowned Musée du Louvre in Paris (subject to availability).
